Trial Attorney

Are you an attorney who enjoys court appearances? Do you also enjoy visiting little North Carolina towns? Cool! We need a North Carolina licensed attorney to do both of those things…at the same time.

CEDAR GROVE LAW is a law firm founded in 2020 that focuses on farmers, agriculture law, and the business planning and disputes that arise out of farming and land use. We also represent clients with personal property disputes in rural areas all across NC. (We’ve appeared in 75 of the 100 NC counties, to date). This role will be key to growing the dispute portion of our practice.

This new role with our growing firm will appear in courthouses all over the state from Murphy to Manteo, quite literally. The role would be ideal for an attorney who is centrally located in the state and who loves to take road trips to courthouses near and far. You can expect to be in a courthouse 3 or four days per week.  There are plenty of transactional and systems automations projects to fill time spent off the road.

  • North Carolina licensed attorney with no history of reprimand or suspension

  • 2+ years experience practicing law with demonstrated courtroom experience

  • Quick on your feet thinker with a creative approach to practicing law

  • Punctual – as in, travels several hours and shows up for docket calls on time

  • Someone who doesn’t take life too seriously, but who takes the practice of law very seriously – harder than it looks, right?

  • COVID-19 vaccinated and mask wearer anytime you’re indoors representing us.

  • Reliable transportation across the state and back

  • Clean driving record

  • Bonus points if you take cool pics of the locations that we can share on social!

About the Role

This is a remote, yet traveling role (except for some team meetings from time to time in Hillsborough, NC). You’ll be scheduled weeks in advance to appear in courthouses all across the state by our Litigation Director – who is very awesome. One of our attorneys – also awesome – will prep you on the file in advance of trial. You’ll appear at the appointed time, on the appointed date, in the appointed courthouse. You’ll vigorously argue our clients’ cases in said courthouse. You’ll report back, scan necessary documents, and travel home. Rinse and repeat.  There may be times you need to leave home at 6 am to get where you need to be, or spend the night in a modest hotel to make your court time the next day.

We are most interested in hiring the right person. If you’re intrigued by NC travel plus courthouse appearances, let us know! We are a new firm looking to scale and grow in a thoughtful way in the near future. If you want to be a key part of this growth, we’d love to hear from you.
